Cops should set up fake accidents and ticket rubber neckers.

No I'm not kidding. I was on the highway today at rushhour going 20 mph for several miles. I thought "Wow this rushour traffic really sucks!" Finally I got up to a point where on the left of the two lane highway were two vehicles pulled over and 4 people standing by them. I didn't see any significant damage. What I did see however was an empty highway ahead of me. That's right - just because of two vehicles pulled over the the side of the road rubber neckers had deteriorated a 75+ cruising speed (which I hit immediately after the "accident") to a 20 mph fvcking mess.

Police should make up fake accident scenes and if you look for more than 2 seconds you get a $2500 ticket on the spot. Now if a person's head is on a hood or a car is split in two with guts literally on the ground I can understand bystander syndrome, but this was just DICKRICULOUS! :|

I totally agree. When coming back home yesterday from Easter, I hit major traffic. One time it was a wreck. The second time it was a 15 mile backup simply because people were looking at a wreck on the other side of the interstate

I forget which State it is but they have tall shields that they put up between a scene and the Highway to try and cut down rubber necking slow downs (actually stops). I've seen idiots slam on the brakes and move a lane closer to look at wrecks.

I was in a minor rear-ending years back in a cap and somebody looking at the "aftermath" actually rear-ended somebody as well. It causes accidents and is based in human psychological stupidity.

IIRC the majority of accidents caused by driver distraction are from rubbernecking. Way more than cell phone use, etc.

Yep I hate rubber neckers. Was in traffic for around 20 mins just so the fools could slow down and gaze at the State police Camaro on a routine traffic stop.

It's caused by all the people who have no life. The only way they can feel better about themselves is to gawk at someone who is more unfortunate.

I like your idea, BTW. Instead of ticketing them, though, I suggest that the cops have a sniper placed alongside the hwy and anyone who slows down gets one between the eyes. A fast mover team would then move that car off the road so that everyone else can get on their way.

I was also thinking that they could have a truck on the side of the road and rubberneckers get rammed, then a picture taken so that they can take it home and stare at their own accident as long as they like.

And I agree with your first sentence. People who take toooo much pleasure in other people's unfortunate circumstances should re-evaluate their own lives.

Not to say I don't sometimes as well to make me feel better about myself. I'm only human!

That's said by EVERYONE that looks.

And you know you do, so stop being hypocritical everyone.
He looks and looking is fine - it's slowing down that is the problem.

Two things on the road piss me off to no end:

1) not using turn signals
2) rubberneckers

They need to all be SHOT. Survivors need to be shot again.

Yes, you should absolutely maintain highway speed while not watching the road.

You mean you can't drive at 75mph and briefly look to the side without veering off the road?

i admit it i look, but i can't say that i slow down to look.......except that i have to cause the bozo in front of me decided that his life depended on him seeing what went down..

Ya and undercover cops should go up to people an punch them in the mouth to see if they can get shot too.

I know you ar'nt serious this is entrapment.
