Cops like these give the rest a bad name

Need more tape from before this starts. The officer didn't do anything wrong that I can tell (not an expert in these matters. However, he was very unprofessional basing my opinion only off of the tape that very apparently starts after an event provoked the officer in some way.

It sounds like the officer told the reporter that he had to leave. The reporter verbally refused, and then the cop got a little physical. So far things are fine. The cop insists the reporter leave, and the reporter says, "I just wanna go, I'll go, it's fine, I'll go", in a petulant voice. Then the cop abruptly decides that he's arresting the reporter. IMO, the cop is basing his actions on his dislike of the reporter.

Is an officer of the law tells you to do something do you always have to do it?

If this had just been out in public on a sidewalk and the officer tells them to leave do they have to? Doesn't the reporter (or anyone for that matter) have a right to stand around?

I think the reporter was asking - or attempting to ask - questions of the onlookers, which could be considered obstruction.

Safety concerns, obstructing/interfering with an investigation/etc. Determined by state law..

Don't you wonder why the entire video isn't shown?

Notice he said "he didn't want to cause any problems" until after the cuffs came out? Everything depends on how the laws are written in that state..obstructing traffic, pedestrian on roadway, interfering with an investigation, etc. I'd like to see what was recorded prior to that event.

But, naturally, I'm biased, cops can do no wrong, blah blah blah blah. Yeah, I've heard it all before.

If the reporter disregarded a lawful order to leave the scene, the reporter was subject to immediate arrest for failure to comply.

Unless the video was edited in the middle, I don't think we're missing much. The cop offered the reporter the chance to drive away, and when the reporter finally said OK - and sounded like a little kid who got his ball taken away - the cop decided to arrest him anyway.

As for the "serve and protect" thing, well, the cop had to protect the integrity of the investigation. If there is a higher level of douchebaggery among cops than with other professions, maybe it's because of all the idiots running around screaming "SERVE & PROTECT".

If this weren't a media-related incident, I don't think the cop would even be on desk duty.
