YUKON - A Yukon police officer has resigned after admitting he engaged in sexual acts while on duty.
NEWS 9 report
Police and city officials refused to disclose the officer's name, citing an ongoing investigation.
Police Chief Ike Shirley said the resignation was the result of a three-week investigation into alleged sexual misconduct between a Yukon police officer and a female employee at a Conoco convenience store at Main Street and Ranchwood Boulevard.
Shirley said the investigation revealed other officers might have been involved in similar consensual sex acts with a store clerk. Whether any of the other officers were on duty or in uniform during possible sexual encounters with the clerk was not clear.
Some of those officers also have been disciplined internally for conduct detrimental to the department, Shirley said. The chief would not say what type of discipline was carried out, but said the department is acting to prevent similar incidents.
"We do plan on meeting with all our officers and looking at ethical procedures," Shirley said. "It's a shame something like this occurs. Anytime a complaint comes to our attention, we're going to look at it and take necessary actions."
Shirley said a replacement will be sought immediately for the officer who resigned. The department has 35 sworn officers.
The convenience store owners did not return telephone calls.
City Manager Jim Crosby said the internal investigation "isn't going to be over for a while."
He said the clerk threatened a lawsuit against the city, and the police union threatened action because the officer was forced to resign. No criminal charges have resulted from the investigation.
Crosby said the sexual encounters are believed to have occurred over 18 months and that some officers committed acts on more than one occasion.
