Those morons. All speed traps do is make perfectly smooth traffic turn into a huge breakfest where you get morons slamming on their breaks AFTER they see the cop radaring them.
Nothing pisses me off more than stupid ass cops standing on the side of the road, radar in hand, at 7am Rush Hour... You don't have the balls to get in your car and merge with extremely dense 80+mph traffic, so go the fvck home. :D
Nothing pisses me off more than stupid ass drivers that think going 15mph over the speed limit is a good idea.
You sir, need to get out of your horse and buggy and try driving in a real city.

Do people get pulled over in this 'real city'?

Negative, on the main highways in dallas, you will rarely ever see anyone pulled over. It's just too dangerous to pull someone over out there.

way to go, use a "safety" excuse to target the safest drivers on the road

Very, VERY obviously just a revenue maker.

OMG! People were going 70 on a rural interstate!!! :Q:Q :roll::disgust:

You young'uns may not know this, but the speed limit on every freeway in the country used to be 70 mph before the '73 oil crisis had the federal government lower the speed limit to 55, not for safety, but to conserve oil reserves (this law was later repealed in '96).
Before '73, very few cars had disc drakes or even seatbelts, most still had bias-ply tires, and none had airbags.

What do you want to bet that "44-car pileup" was caused by driver inattention, and not by speeding? And yet the state patrol is using it as an excuse to bend the laws for a big revenue money-maker? Nice... :disgust:

edit:
Eric Skrum, the communications director for the National Motorists Association, a Wisconsin-based drivers organization that supports higher speed limits and opposes speed traps and revenue-generating traffic enforcement measures, said studies show police are effective when they're visible.

"This is a revenue maker. This is not about safety in the least," Skrum said. State police say that's not the case.
A single visible cop will make people slow down. Making the cop non-visible is all about gettin' that revenue. And that's bullsh!t.

I live in San Antonio and cops camp on the highways... and all it does it make everyone slam on their brakes. Thank goodness for my Escort 8500(radar detector, not my blow up friend).

my brother who lives in Dallas makes fun of it all the time. he says Dallas has 'real' crime - cops are too busy for speed traps on the highways.

:werd: I believe all of this is only for Revenue and a re-election bid for the Sheriff. Nothing more. Besides....there are laws they are probably breaking by doing what they are. Cop cars have to be "Visible" for at least 250 feet before they can clock you.

You are on crack if you believe that. A cop could be sitting in a lawn chair, drinking an Ice tea, and as long as he is certified with the radar/laser system he is using, you are fair game.

PRESTO!!!!!

we stop breaking the law. yup, that's right. put a uniformed cop at an intersection and people will stop running the stop sign. i don't know about you, but i think it's better to PREVENT the crime in the first place than to sit and wait for the crime to be commited and then nab the criminal.

oh right, i was confusing ethics with the law. my bad.

You want to pay for the extra man-power that would cost? I didn't think so.

Slow down so long as the cop is in sight. Be honost, we see a cop, we slow down...cop goes away, we speed up. They know people are speeding. You don't want a ticket, don't speed. Its really that simple...speeding does NOT save you a significant amount of time. The state cops in Illinois rarely pull you over for 10 over, but they almost always will for 15 over. You know how much time that saves on a 225 mile trip? Like 12 minutes. Is it really worth it to speed that excessivly?

Why are your driving skills so poor and your car such a POS that you have to go so slow? If going faster wasn't worth it, we'd all still be riding horse-and-buggies.

And it's not 12 minutes, the time difference between 55 mph and 70 mph over 225 miles is 52 minutes 36 seconds.
225 / 55 = 4.09 hours or 4 hours 5 minutes 27 seconds
225 / 70 = 3.21 hours or 3 hours 12 minutes 51 seconds

Looks like you flunked math too.

I was calculating 10 over vs 15 over. Eat my ass douchbag. Its not worth the 75 dollar fine. Thats a decently long trip, how could it be worth it on a shorter one?

I love it how the same people who say "Put a cop at the intersection, have them visible and speeding will decrease, blah blah blah" in this thread, are the same people who say "Fvcking pigs have nothing better to do than write tickets, they should be out solving real crime" in other threads.

Gotta love the hipocracy that is ATOT.

I live in Dallas and drive down 75 everyday and back from Plano. I see cops almost every other day pulling people over. Ya, people slam on their brakes and its annoying!

Average speeds seem to vary wildly from region to region.

Driving back from western Massachusets today I'd say the average speed was about 80 in a 65. Even at 80 I might as well have been standing still as many drivers were most likely doing about 90 mph. This was I-495 and I-90.

On the other hand driving down the thruway I-87 to the harriman barrier is another story. Many drivers will drive under 65 in a 65. Almost all drivers on the Thruway drive 65-70. Some drive 75 and it's very rare to see a driver do over 75.

Western Mass - Average speed - 80
Hudson Valley - Average speed - 68

omg if they have that many people speeding obviously the roads are in good enough condition to up the speed limit. what is the states maximum speed limit? I know arkansas's law makers are retarded and keep them at 55mph, but texas and oklahoma allow 70mph (75mph in turnpikes in oklahoma)

Is speeding the main cause of pileups? I'm more inclined to blame the lines of people who drive at 70+mph(65 legal) all following each other at about 10-15 feet. I see them every day on the roads. They aren't really speeding, but they will sure as hell pile up on each other if the guy in front has to brake hard.

The way I interpeted that post was driving 70 mph vs 65 mph...

If that this is the case, 225/65 is about 3 hours 27 minutes

which is about 15 minutes longer...
