Cops don't give each other tickets?

Headed to work on a state road, a city cop blows by me - no lights on, no siren, nothing. He's a good 30 miles away from his jurisdiction.

It's about 10am, the road if fairly empty, so I hit the gas and pace him at 105 mph. We slow down to take an exit and he drops to the speed limit within town. I'm headed to work along this route anyway - and he eventually turns off and pulls into a house & I drive on to work.

Questions:

1] It PO's me to see a cop speed with apparent impunity. I figure they protect each other and there is nothing I could do (I considered calling the city and asking WTF is up with their cops speeding - I had his license #)...

If I speed past a cop, more than likely I'll get a ticket....

2] Do cops give each other tickets?

When I was in traffic school, there were two cops there. They both stated they are never suppose to use their badge to get out of ticket. I'm sure some do.

I've been friends with several cops and they all acknowledged that they don't write each other tickets. FWIW, it's a perk. OTOH, they're not going to get away with DUI or something else more serious, especially outside their jurisdiction.

I missed the part where both of you passed another cop and you got a ticket but the cop didn't.

Did you report it? Really you are stupid for "pacing" him.

I doubt any of his fellow officers would ignore 105.
My dad received tickets as a cop.

Oh STFU, you just said that you were driving as fast as he was. Get over yourself, you broke the law as well, you can't hold him to a separate standard.

You are lucky he didnt pull you over, all he would have had to do is wait for another officer to show up, with juristiction, and ticket you.

I said I paced him - after he passed me. Try answering the questions or STFU. So, if I wasn't shadowing him, what would be your answer? I *know* I would get a ticket....:disgust:

Yep. One of my friends who is a sheriff was livid when his daughter who was drunk as a skunk wiped out several cars as she weaved all over a local highway.

"How could you arrest the daughter of a brother?".

i have a friend who was an EMT and he got out of a ticket. as he was pulling out his license, the cop saw his EMT ID and that was the end of that.

The other day in western wa, the news had a story about a policemans car being stolen, with gun inside...

Not a Police-Car... just the guys car. As it turns out, he left his car running while he went back into his house/appartment -- and that's when it was taken.
The news had the story to ask people to report if they see the car, as they are mostly concerned about the guys gun getting into the wrong hands.

Not one word about the policeman getting a ticket (although he may have and it just wasn't mentioned).
The ironic part at the beginning of every winter it seems they've got a weeks worth of news reports stressing how leaving your car running while unattended (to warm up) is against the law, and they're out ticketing people to combat the problem.

So I'm really wondering if this guy got a ticket

When I worked at a retail store a sergeant was caught shoplifting about $150 in CDs and when we called police they came and.... the rookie cop who called it out over the radio got in trouble, while the thief (he had done it before, too) was let go.

THe law exists, at least in some places. The same applies to other areas. Cops do not give tickets to firefighters.

Yeah, mrsskoorb works with a nurse who claims that her husband (who's a cop) has a thing with their precinct that often they will speed to a scene, but with their lights off. I can't remember the reason...

Cops do get tickets. Just not while they're on-duty in their cruisers. He was probably speeding for a valid reason, and he doesn't have to turn the lights on to do that. Otherwise, off-duty cops typically get a higher rate of tickets and DUIs than the general populace at large.

It's illegal in NJ as well, but everyone does it and they don't enforce it. I think it's like a $3000 fine.

I don't care if cops give each other tickets as long as they keep it under 90.
