I don't think that would hold up in court and in the UK the police have the right (as they should) to search your car.

The UK's police rights are pretty similar to the US as far as I am aware -

The police can stop and search any person, vehicle, and anything in or on the vehicle for certain items. However, before they stop and search they must have reasonable grounds for suspecting that they will find:

- stolen goods
- drugs (which is why Heller was searched)
- an offensive weapon
- any article made or adapted for use in certain offences, for example a burglary or theft
- knives
- items which could damage or destroy property, for example spray paint cans.

When the police stop to search you, they must provide you with the following information or the search can't begin:

- proof of their warrant card
- information on police powers to stop and search
- your rights
- the police officer's name and police station
- the reason for the search-
- what they think they might find when they search you
- a copy of the search record.

In all of these situations where the police have a right to stop and search, they should not require you to take off in public any clothing other than an outer coat, jacket or gloves.

Yeah, it's pretty much the same regarding searches of vehicles but there are other things that makes the US so much more free, like warrantless wiretaps, imprisoning citisens without charges and holding them for as long as you want to while torturing them, no-knock warrantless searches, internet censorship... See these things are the things that we don't have in the UK or the EU and thus we are less free...

Never, Never, Never, Never, Never let the cops search your car. Make them illegally search your car or get a search warrant. Even if you "KNOW" there is nothing illegal in your car.

This is is the most ignorant comment I have read on this site.

Really? If i knew there was nothing illegal in my car i would just say sure knock yourself out and be on my way. Instead of wasting time dealing with the legal systems recourse of search warrents etc. Now if i knew i had something illegal then sure id heed the above advice.

whatever, even if it was loud to search my car because my music talks about cocaine? thats ridiculous

Hmm, how about turning off the music before he gets to your window and being polite? I'm sure you'd have had a much different experience if you had shown a bit of respect.

Then he finds a pocket knife under the passenger seat and holds you for 6 hours of interrogation. Meanwhile your car is towed and impounded, which are both paid by you if you want your car back.

That's pretty much standard practice.

Of course a cowardly loser like yourself can't understand it, just like you can't understand why everyone here dislikes you.

A search request is an accusation of wrongdoing and an attack on a man's character and integrity. No real man would passively allow himself to be slandered by agreeing to an unwarranted search. Of course no one's ever accused you of being a real man, so it's no surprise you have such difficulty with the concept.

Your repeated claims that the police will make you wait for a warrant are laughably false. Acquiring a warrant requires exactly the same standard of evidence as a warrantless search; if they have probable cause they will simply perform the search, not waste the time to request a pointless warrant.

I dont hate him. All i see is Americans filled with hate for others bashing on him all the time for no reason at all. At least he puts thought into his posts unlike most people here. Regardless if you agree with him or not.

I'm not saying take away free speech, I'm saying take away peoples ability to spread hate. Why do are the WBC entitled to they're opinion when they are spreading hate? I don't think that hate is subjective, if you have hate crimes then it must be definable what hate is.

Free speech is good, free speech for everyone no matter what they say or what they spread isn't good, it's dangerous.

:hmm: Does not compute.

Sorry i dont carry a pocket knife in my car. I have nothing remotely illegal in my car. He could search all day and all he would be doing is wasting his time and mine. But it would be even longer if i made him go get a warrent etc to still come up with the same results.

Just being alive is illegal. My friend was arrested because cops thought he stole his own vehicle. They couldn't charge him with anything, but they didn't apologize nor did they pay for the impound or the towing. Basically they stole his car and had to pay to get it out. It's the kind of shit you expect in Mexico, but this happened in Canada.

If I were a cop in a bad mood I'd probably say some gum ball I found on the floor looks like drugs. Call in the dog unit, rip the car apart, tow it, impound it, interrogate the driver for as long as legally allowed, then make a comment like "we don't make mistakes very often" (not actually admitting this was a mistake).

I'm fairly certain that if the WBC had been around when the first amendment was written then they would have included "the right to mourn your dead in peace" too.

Sometimes free speech is taken a bit too far and infringes on what at the very least should be a right. To me it's insane that you are not allowed to disturb the peace in some neighbourhoods or public places or you'll be arrested but you ARE allowed to visit funerals and taunt the mourning relatives, screaming that it was deserved and a good thing that the dead person is dead...

The difference is, they aren't spreading "hate." They're spreading a difference of opinion in a rather forcible fashion. The moment the government disallows them the right to do that, they are in effect restricting their right to religion of their choosing, thereby controlling the people. Personally, I would like to see a new religion that goes against the beliefs of the WBC and pickets their deaths and the like to give them a taste of their own medicine. Problem is, they have beliefs that can be viewed as valid to some, but they simply choose to be dicks about it.

I beg to differ, saying "God hates fags" is hateful.
