coppermine/ftp help ...NEW question

EDIT, NEW question Ok, ive got this ftp transfering down like a champ, but coppermine says I need to change its mode to 755 or 777 before trying to add the files. I did a search on coppermines support forums and although 755 and 777 mode is mentioned all it says is that if I don't know what they're talking about(which I don't) then I should google "UNIX permissions"

I did this and after going through multiple pages, nothing seemed to be of relavence. Any help appreciated, please disreguard the later half of this post as well as the first 12 replies.

Hey Guys, Im trying to upload alot of high resolution photos to my coppermine site. Ross has been helping me out a bunch last couple of days, but he is a very busy man, and I feel bad when I keep bugging him. 🙁😉

FTP is the way to go, and ive downloaded a FTP client from download.com per Ross's advice, Titan FTP Server, and I can connect to my site, ftp.mysite.com.....but then I become lost.

In ftp.mysite.com, I see public_ftp>incoming which is where I would assume they would go, but I really have no clue. TIA

EDIT: Navigating through ftp.mysite.com, Ive found a few low res photos I uploaded earlier. Can't i just drag and drop from my desktop folder to my coppermin>albums folder? Why do I need the FTP client?

IM me. I'll do my good deed for the day. But only if you are 18 and over. I can't help you if you are 12.

In FTP, navigate to your /public_html/Coppermine/albums/userpics

Create a folder then upload all your pics to it, then goto your Coppermine gallery and once in Admin mode you can "Batch add pictures" Select that folder, all done 🙂

Edit: hevnsnt is fast! 😀

dsl, now it says 1hr 30 mins

That's way to long.

What's your UPLOAD speed and which FTP client are you using?

lol, Hey Ross. I changed clients to Ipswitch WS_FTP Pro 9.0 which was much easier to use for me. Now it only takes about 12mins but didn't really go past 20kb/s. I can transfer fine, but when I go to batch upload in coppermine is says not writeable b/c of mode 775 or 777 is not enabled.

OK dude heres what you gotta do

FTP into your site and then go to Pub_HTML -> coppermine install, Right click on the folder you are trying to upload pics to and select PROPERTIES, you shoudl see a box that says permissions next to it in there, change that to 755 and you should be all set

I use SMART FTP

ahh, when i checked it, it was set to 755, maybe i need to have it set to 777. If i change the permissions, will I need to re-transfer everything?

EDIT: I changed it to 777 and now it looks fine, thanks Anubis!
