Coppermine/Celermine temps on a CUBX

Hi!

I'd want to see what temps others get. Unfortunately, I don't know it exactly, but it seems as if every board manufacturer places their temps sensors a bit differently, so the temps aren't very comparable. (Am I wrong?)

I've got a Celeron2-533.
At 533:
idle: 20° to 29° (depending on room temp)
working: 40 to 47°

At 800: (1,6V setting, but the utility then measures about 1,65V ):
idle: 21° to 30° (pretty much the same as at 533 MHz)
working: 47° to 58°

Sorry, with "working" I meant "very busy", I didn't find the right word as english is not my native language.

What temperature does your CUBX measure?

Besides, I forgot to mention that I use a simple cooler (with standard termal compound) but which seems to be not bad.

What is your approximate room temp? Golden Orb's sell for about 15 dollars (american) and should help you quite a bit considering how much your temp is fluctuating at idle and load temps.

I think that you're right, buck. Although I thought that my cooler was alright, it seems to do it's job not as well as Painman's Golden Orb.
Hmmm, I have a question......
When I mounted it, there was a silvery layer on it at the place where the cpu should touch, should be a sort of thermal compound, but not liquid, though very soft. I tested both, just as it came and with additional thermal paste. With the additional paste, it seemed to be a little bit cooler, so maybe that cooler mounted heatsink material does not it's job well. I think I'll try to remove it. ? And then maybe lap the cooler bottom? Because I think that the material which anodizing adds on the aluminium doesn't conduct heat well. On the other hand it's so very thin that it probably doesn't make a difference. And after lapping, maybe the aluminium would oxidize after some time and make things worse?
What do you think? (If anything doesn't work I still can buy a better cooler like the Golden orb)

I neglected to mention that my orb has been lapped. That's part of why it cools well, the other part is that I have a rather ridiculous amount of airflow through my case. It never goes more than 2º C above ambient inside there.

Lapping the orb is good because the bottom of it isn't smooth; you'll notice that it has many concentric grooves in it from when the base was manufactured. Using a generous amount of grease is good too since the twisting action of installing the heatsink can scrape a thin layer of grease off of the contact area and push it to the sides. I'm using a thick aluminum oxide paste from Melcor (2cooltek sells it) with my orb and it not only conducts heat well but withstands the heatsink installation.
