Just talked to the Vet's office. My dog is doing well and can come home this morning. Said there is swelling still around his neck but that it will start going down in the next day or so.

I'm glad that I'm not the only person who thinks this way here. Unfortunately, when you get these poisonous snakes near home, a lot of times the safest thing to do is to kill them. I certainly wouldn't try to capture it and move it.

I live in Arizona and I've got my share of the wild to worry about...scorpions, rattlesnakes, coyotes, etc...

Africanized bee swarms kill 2-3 dogs every year out here because stupid owners leave them chained up outside all day. I got one swarm last year that tried to build a nest over my patio and had to call the bee-removal service. Thankfully the pup was inside.

I'd agree as soon as I had the $ to buy a bee space-suit and gloves and an assortment of good pesticides.

Seriously, the guy was decked out - space suit w/helmet, big gloves, etc... - foamed the SOB's to death in the middle of June in Arizona (HOT!). I would not want that job, it cost $ but it was worth it!

$300! Damn that's cheap. Around here, a rattlesnake bite will cost you between $2,500 & $3,000. We have our share of rattlers too, I guess that's just the cost of living in our area. There's one 24hr vet I know of that's close, and that's the going rate from what I've heard from the other people who walk their dogs where we go. I guess the anti-venom is not too easily acquired - or for animals anyway.
