I was just buying some Artic SilverII and a chipset fan and I saw the 1/8th" thick copper cold plates. So they were only 3.50 I bought one on impulse has anyone tryed adding a copper plate to an air cooled CPU? I was thinking of using Artic Silver epoxy as a seal around the outside edge and keep the Artic SilverII in the center and combine the plate and FOP32 permanently. I will lap both sufaces(+both sides of plate) and adjust the clip so I wont crush my core. Sound like a good idea or did I just waste 3.50 ?

Nope thats a good idea, you'll have a super FOP on your hands. Just make sure you sand those surfaces to like a fine polish it should look totally like a mirror. This has been done too older GW heatsinks like the FDP and got pretty significant results. So go for it man let me know how it goes and your troubles with gettign the clip on.

btw id get a copperplate that will match the size of the base of the HS. That way the heat spreaded across the whole base.

Well Gizzo you hit the nail on the head hardest part was the clip. One FOP clip dead spring steel dosent bend well...I knew that. Replaced with a P200 clip with a few foam(t1000)feet under it to increase pressure while leaving give/play for instalation. All the complaints on the FOP clip HE-HE-HE try using one with no hinge,no screwdriver slot pulled from a P200 Compaq fanless HS. YIKES! Anyway its in and running,I have some thermistor problems(temp roulette)and it will take a while to tell if it is really working.

Also you were right to mention the size that part is definately too small for that useage. It took some extra mesuring to make sure I got it on all four feet. Not only instalation but your theorie on added cooling is prolly true too. Im off to usuall evening flight time with temp alarms armed and read........
