Copied some Word docs, are these corrupt?

Hi there...

I just reformatted my other computer and I had copied a bunch of MSWord docs off of there and onto a zip disk so that I could keep them (very important docs!) and after reformatting and copying them back, they all say that the path of the file is incorrect when I open them in Word 2000 (they were created in Word 2000). Are they corrupted? Is there anyway I can repair them? These are very important files and I'd hate to lose them.... :(

Help is much appreciated!!!

Open them up with "notepad" and see what you have; should be able to see clear text in there someplace.

OK, thanks... I was able to get a bit from that, but I wish I could repair the files... I guess that is impossible though... :(

Thanks again!

What I see in your note is the path is incorrect. If you did not save them with the new installed Word then it does not know where the path is to the saved files. If you can open those files in Word and the text looks OK and formatted then simply save them even if you made no changes. Use "Save As" and type in a name or use the original names. Save the files on your hard drive. Once you have saved those files then Word will know the path to them. You can copy those files to your zip disk if that is where you want to keep them and read them on another computer.
If you customize Word make sure you have the same customizations setup in both computers or you will again find problems with Word.

Thanks John, but I can't even open the files... it has that error before displaying anything. It looks like I'll be able to get the info I need by looking at them in Notepad though.

Thanks!
