I guess cops are like politicians. There are good ones out there, but the position often attracts people who don't belong.

The problem is people who dress like criminals complain when they are treated like criminals.

This is why you should routinely log on to your local police web site to stay
apprised of the current attire, actions, locations, and vehicle approval list.

Do Seattle PD have a reputation for being corrupt?

Ehh, not corrupt, exactly. But they are currently being investigated by the Department of Justice for excessive use of force and a bunch of system abuses. Or maybe the investigation is finished, I remember a report was issued and now they're trying to figure out how to reform or something. Basically, this isn't really a shocking story.

This isn't the majority of cops, or even close. But there are far too many like him so it's definitely a huge problem. All I have to say here is I lived in the ghetto for 3 or so years and the police fucked with me around a dozen times. On the flip side I never really had a single problem with gang members fucking with me. Sort of odd isn't it? After my 3 years there I just distrust cops by default now. There are enough bad apples where I understand people who are wary of the whole bunch.

The funny part is that they never try to get away from that image even though they know it would make it easier to get away with shit. Rich white people have known this for years. If you're going to be a criminal, dress in nice clothes like you're ready to appear in court.

I've been saying for years that a completely stock Toyota Echo would be the ultimate drug dealer car. If you saw a car like that, you would never assume it's a drug dealer car.

The larger cities have the most bad apples, mainly because they can't attract quality people because its the city.

The problem here is vast and complex. I'd wager to guess that the overwhelming majority of cops that are hired are clean and honest. The ones that aren't usually are spotted by those that work with them and shunned...it doesn't mean they will quit, just that they don't have many cop friends. I know specifically at my department that we had TRIED to get other cops removed because we knew that they didn't belong, but they technically did nothing illegal, so it was hard to do. Plus starting an investigation on a fellow officer of the same rank would get us fired pretty damn quick.

The second issue comes in where an officer works and works and works...and see's nothing of his hard work from to fruition. Those are probably the more dangerous of the two corruptions. Now they have many friends and trust placed in them because up until a certain point, they were honest and hard working. At a certain point, their mentality changes and they begin to slowly abuse their power and actually begin to corrupt those around him. Again, they are in the minority, but their actions, when caught, are usually more serious.

And that is based on what?

Every cop I have ever talked to.

Edit: I should say that they haven't all been cheats and bad people, but those that I have talked to who are good people also have problems with a large number of cops out there.

The problem is that the power they have, and lack of accountability.

No offense intended, but all cops say the same general garbage, and most of us are sick of hearing the same excuses.

It's disgusting that you "can't" do anything about another officer or you get fired.. I mean seriously, this is the epitomy of a corrupt police department.. You have to "cover" for your other gang members I mean LEO or else you get killed I mean fired and are unemployable.

NO other field or group works this way except for gangs.

I agree with the other poster, that I feel safer in slums by myself than getting pulled over for a routine traffic stop.

I never said it was ideal,, or that I liked it, it's just merely reality. You are welcome to attempt to change it. Everytime I've seen an officer try it out and test it just a little bit, suspension days are handed out. How far would YOU be willing to push it considering your livelihood is affected? I'd be open to hear any suggestions you have regarding improving the system.

Hell, one of our State level guys tried going after the States Attorneys office for backdoor dealings with drug money and how it was being dealt with. That officer was suddenly reassigned to a desk job when he dug too deep. We are roadblocked by more people then just ourselves.

Which is why its illegal to record police.

Yup, we are gonna have to take back our country by force some day. Hopefully I'll be in a nursing home when it happens and wont have to participate.

Wait, Seattle? Shit that explains a lot right there. Fucking ultralibs turned it into a police state on purpose, so they could feel "safe".

Because appearances exist only in the perception of the bigot. If you were a decent human being you wouldn't give it a second thought. If you're an ignorant piece of filth you think it matters what someone looks like. That's really all there is to it.

The ONLY time someone should be treated differently is after they specifically invite it through their illegal or obviously immoral actions. Appearances are neither.

I am not sure you understand what a bigot is.

In any event, I do not think it is unreasonable to judge someone based on the appearance THEY CHOOSE to present to the world. People are born black, hispanic, asian, white, male, female, etc. People are NOT born dressing like a criminal, punk or gang member nor do they have to CHOOSE to dress that way.

If a cop sees a man walking in an upscale neighborhood, dressed in black shoes, black pants, black long sleeve turtleneck shirt, black stocking cap and carrying a flashlight and a crowbar, do you think the cops should check in with that gentleman?

Yep, and the police CHOOSE to almost universally only do shit to BLACK people who dress like that. My town has plenty of white assholes who dress and walk around acting like thugs. Yet the cops never do shit to them. You do realize a black person in a SUIT is more likely to be fucked with by a police officer than a white man who's dressed like a gang banger right?

The kids in the 1st pic you posted could walk around at midnight looking like that without any cops saying shit to them 99/100 times.

That may be true in your town, I guess.

Would black people in a suit be messed with as much as a black person in gang attire?

This is an issue? If you want to get somewhere in life, don't jerk off through high school, end up in community college, jerk off through that too, and resort to working as a decriminalized thuga**m*therf*cker. Cops are nothing but a complete waste of taxpayer dollars. Those who grasp onto the naive belief that cops are actually productive members of society are probably the same people who support the perpetual wars in the middle east. Cops are inherently psychologically flawed, and using the lack of "fruition" as an excuse for their scumbag behavior is as flawed as claiming a dog ate a student's homework.

As for the "more serious" consequences of "their actions", 3 months of office duty, that'll teach'em.
