It isn't a done deal yet as they are reconvening the jury on monday. Maybe this person will be able to remove his head from his buttocks by then.

I don't understand what's wrong with the other 11 jurors. Donald Trump won the election; facts and videos mean nothing. Get used to it.

What would this man have done had he not received 8 shots in the back? Cure cancer? I bigly doubt it.

11 to 1 - do judges usually publicly release jury to judge communications? is he trying to get them to settle?

Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. Guy probably knew all along he was never going to convict and let himself be selected.

Another victory for the prosecution! She even congratulated the jury for working so hard and told them all to be proud of the work they did.

There was never any intention for this case to succeed. The local demographics are 30-40% white yet there are 11 white jurors. The prosecution clearly blowing a winnable case, then congratulating the jury that threw the case purposely. She will win major points with the brass for this, she had to deliver a mistrial and she succeeded. Props to her for setting attainable goals, and meeting them.

What legal precedent would be set by this case? That it is now legal to shoot fleeing suspects? What a windfall for serial killers.

By report it was 11-1 in favor of conviction. There was one guy who was refusing to convict because the defendant was a police officer. The other 11 were trying to get him to convict.

There was a report by CNN yesterday where the holdout had the foreman slip a note to the judge in regards to this (that under no circumstances could he bring himself to convict a police officer). My suspicion is the guy knew from day 1 he was going to block conviction and manipulated his way onto the jury. Usually juries should be all people who could go either way and have no outside conflicts of interest but from time to time someone with a vested interest in the trial manages to conceal his interests and get on juries.

And yet people wonder why the Black Lives Matter movement exists. The officer could have shouted "I'M GOING TO MURDER THIS UNARMED BLACK MAN AND LIE ABOUT IT" into the camera and there would still be some police brutality apologist trying to justify it.

I'm glad nearly all the jury thought differently, but this is how systemic violence persists. All it takes to derail a conviction (or even the possibility of a trial) is a handful of people who still cling to their childhood image of police officers as flawless champions of justice. Until enough people understand that police officers can and do commit crimes while wearing a badge, the problem won't get fixed.

And if there was no video of the incident there wouldn't have even been a trial.

That's just messed up :(

Slow down a bit. It was 11-1 and based on the charges the prosecution was looking for a convection. When they are trying to throw it they usually just go with a single murder charge, voluntary manslaughter was included as well this time around. I think the prosecution acted in good faith, there was just a single juror who wasn't going to convict no matter what the evidence was. I'm 95% confident this one will be retried.

Hopefully the prosecution appeals and gets the trial moved so the ex-cop gets full prison time for murder. That is what the outcome should have been and would have been had there not been that one asshat on the jury.

No appeal required, just schedule a retrial.

Cant convict a cop of shooting somebody in the back in this country. Little we can hope for accountability.

As noted, they just reschedule for a new trial.

There is a good chance of some sort of plea now, hopefully not to a chickenshit charge.

I hope the name of that juror leaks.

I don't. That juror may be fundamentally wrong-headed, but I respect the judicial process. The prosecutor just confirmed that there will be a retrial, so it doesn't matter much in the long run.

shame is their weapon.

As I said, soooo scary.

Then there are people with actual power like, say, Donito Trumplini who, even before taking office, has already managed to make the world a slightly more dangerous place.

I'm sorry, people who believe that the scary "sjw" is a real issue in their lives need to buy at least a couple of clues.

refusing to convict a cop who shoots a fleeing man in the back and then immediately plants a weapon goes substantially beyond "fundamentally wrong-headed" in my book.
