Well you already got your answer over at JonnyGuru but here it is again.

A standard PSU has all the cables hard wired to the unit.

A modular PSU has most of the cables on connectors so they can be removed from the PSU. This allows you to keep out any cables you don't need so you doesn't have a clutter of cables in your system.

JonnyGuru...

Go to Europe.

In the US, Cooler Master doesn't sell modular PSU's unless they're bundled with a case (seen the 1kW modular this way at Newegg.)

So obviously the difference would one you can get in Europe...lol

Then go to Canada.

I already answered the question in the first post a week ago when you posted it over at jg.com.

Because of issues with the patent Ultra has in the U.S. on modular power supply design, some companies, like Cooler Master, don't ship modular models to the U.S.

If you're in Canada, great. More power to ya.

Crap Jonny, I would like to get a modular 1KW PSU that is relatively quiet, as it will be in my personal residence, if you were me, which one would you buy? I have your list but there is a lot of choice on there!

If you want a modular one get the antec tpq. If you dont want modular just get the cooler master. ;-)

If you can suck it up and use 750 or 850 watts you can pick up a good deal on ebay with all of the ones that were purchased when comp usa closed.

How about the Thermaltake Toughpower? Or wait and see how the Corsiar HX1000 does. Or the Ultra X3 1Kw.
