After an unexpected 3 month delay, I am about to purchase a system with an X2 4800+. I have spent quite a bit of time looking for the right parts with the help of people here.
One area that I know nothing about is cooling.

I thought that I understood that the X2 4800+
had reasonable stock cooling. My vendor has indicated that there could be a noise
problem and has suggested a Coolermaster Hyper48 CPU Chiller. I cannot find
any information on this unit anywhere. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

If it is any help, I will have the system in an Antec P-180 and will be including
a 7800GTX. I will not be overclocking this computer.

Thanks in advance.

Stock isn't too loud if you're not OCing then it'll be alright, and i wouldn't get a coolermaster HSF myself. If you want quiet then a Zalman 9500 or a SI120 with a nexus orange (best option) or a Scythe ninja would be better.

Hyper 48 is a great unit, but the stock HS/F is free and performes about the same.

I don't think you need to upgrade the stock cooler. It has a decent sized, copper heatpipe in aluminum fins heatsink. Noise won't be an issue if you use Cool & Quiet or you have a motherboard that sets the fan to run at a certain speed below a certain temperature. My Abit runs my Freezer 64 Pro at 1400 RPM and it's silent (yes, completely silent) and still keeps the OCed mofo to 31C idle and 43C load. If there is a noise problem (and only if there's a noise problem), get a new cooler. Otherwise, stock is fine.

Thanks everyone,
I will take your advice and just keep the stock cooling.
