My E6300 will arrive this friday and I've been looking for a good cooler in order to OC...
Personally, i'd like the Scythe but currently they are out of stock here in asia...

So whats the 2nd best cooler for conroe in order to achieve max OC??????
 
Both the Tuniq Tower 120, which currently isn't available anywhere, and the Scythe Ninja are close in performance to the Scythe Infinity.
 
i have an asus silent square on my 6700 and its performing beautifully, however I have 4 sticks of ram installed and that I think is severely limiting my overclocking even though its corsair 1066mhz rated xms...
 
all the ones listed seem to make people happy, totally subjective to your case fitting the HSF and what "hook up" type you like, the pop on kind, the screw on kind etc etc.

i have a zalman 9500 on my e6400, its cool, quiet, and does the job.

really up to you.....and your budget.

chilly1 has the best mass-ish produced cooling equipment. Usually in the range of 600-700 USD and giving roughly -30 to -40C during load.

Scythe Infinity is probably the best for air cooling, also easy to put on.
It works great with my gigabyte DQ6 mobo since no backplate is required. The ninja on the other hand uses a backplate which won't fit with the crazy cool backplate unless longer screws are used.

Combine that with coollabatory liquid pro and you've got a very good HSF.

Yeah, because it makes so much sense to spend more on cooling than the cpu itself...

If you can't find Scythe products, I'd look at Zalman and Thermalright next.

Laptop is over a year old and costed about 900 USD. Couldn't find anywhere else that would sell me a laptop for that price, new and with decent parts.

Well, if you have the money and time, you can pick up a lower end $250 CPU along with a chilly1 cooler $650 = $900 and get an overclock well over what you'd get if you spent similar amount on the top-end CPU of either intel or AMD and decent air cooling.

I ended up going with the Big Typhoon on my DS3 board and an E6400. Right now I am stable at 390 fsb with load temps at 46-48C according to Easy Tune, and at 52-55C according to CoreTemp. At idle I hover around ~30C (or 40C in CoreTemp). At stock speeds I never went over 45C at load according to either program. I am very pleased with the cooling compared to the stock HSF.
 
I'm using the 9500 AT (non-LED version) and so far I'm happy with it on my E6400. I guess it'll depend on mobo compatibility and your budget.

the Big Typhoon VX is better than the Zalman IMO. I even have a Zalman 9500, but am going to be upgrading to some more extreme cooling. Thinking of the Thermalright Ultra-120.
 
What I like about the Zalman 9500 other than its great cooling abilities is that its also a bit lighter and has a bit shorter profile than some of the other big coolers. To me this is important although I dont move my box around. I'm not a big fan of large hsf to begin with due to their size but the I feel the 9500 is going to put less stress on the mobo than some of the other big coolers I see coming out now. Thats why I like the 9500. Others may not feel weight and size is critical but thats just how I am.

The only niggling gripe I have about the 9500 AT is that its more expensive than the 9500 LED version. You'd think something that lights up would be more expensive than something that doesnt. ::chuckle:: Luckily price wasnt a big factor for my decision.
