Greetings.

built a new computer a week ago.

Asus P5B
Intel E6300 C2D
Thermaltake "Matrix" case

also using a Silverstone 500w ST50EF-Plus powersupply

I am not overclocking. I use the stock fan\heatsink with the E6300
I ran the intel TAT program and under 100% load i get temps of 55C
Idle temps are around 39C-40C ...this i assume is ok?

I have a 20cm fan on front of case..20cm fan on rear. powersupply has a 20cm fan on underside. Also have a 18cm fan on side of case..this is were i have a question.
this fan sits (see link above for picture) above the CPU. I have noticed other Thermaltake cases had this fan blowing in, onto the CPU. I currently have it blowing out.
which way would be better?
If you look at the case you will see that the CPU is surrounded by 3 fans- 20cm on rear, 20cm under powersupply and 18cm on side. (plus the heatsink fan)

So in closing, side fan, blow in or out? I would probably look to overclocking later on and would get a better than stock heatsink\fan






 
the side fan should be blowing in.

right now when it is blowing out it is fighting good airflow in your case by contradicting the flow of air that comes towards the cpu and then out the back and top (via ps)

55c at load is a great temp. you are in good hands.

hey op, you might want to invest in a artic freezer 7. The stock cooler with PWMIC fan can get ANNOYING, as it spins and whins... then it slows down... then spins really fast and whins again. You can pick a AF7 for about 25 shipped, so its not a heavy investment.

Also you temps are fine, anything sub 60 is concidered great on 100% TAT.
 

thanks. so i did the switch. fan on side of case now blowing in.
what i have noticed.
Running TAT at 100% load on both cores i get a max temp of 55c (no change)
Idle temps have dropped from 39-40C to 35C

The main problem i have now is the noise. it sure is "buzzy" now. I at first thot it may be a wire worked loose and was rubbing a fan
but i checked 2x and it is ok.

Now i am thinking about replacing the CPU Fan\HS ...Been looking at the diff brands but not too sure which way to go.
Would like one that is quiet and is ready for overclocking. Would like to boost my e6300 up a few notches.

I kind of like the look of those "barrel" shaped heatsinks with the fan inside the barrel.
I also like the ones that screw onto a bracket on the motherboard instead of that stupid push pin thing the stock HS has
(who the heck thot THAT was a good idea..sheesh)

off to read the HS\Fan threads... basic requirements are quiet, ease if installation and over-clock cooling.



















 

so today i replaced the stock fan\hs with the arctic freezer 7 pro

it just fit - northbridge hs very close to bottom of freezer
installation was a bit tricky - would have been easier with motherboard removed
instead i took off the rear case fan so i could get to that push pin

runs nice - temps are good - ran TAT on 100% both cores for 15min to melt in the
paste - temps at 48c
idle temps are now 32c

now to look at overclocking 🙂
