Cooling Pad for Router

I found that the internet speed is affected because of overheating router. Can I use a cooling pad to cool my router all day? The cooling pad is NOTEPAL U STAND mini and the router is TD-W8980.

How fast is your WAN connection?
What is the ambient temp where the router is at?
I also think that those pads aren't worth the price, and barely work.

If you already have the cooling stand then by all means it should be fine, otherwise it's overkill. If you are looking to purchase something for it, just get a good USB powered fan, plug it into the router, and have it blow across the router. If you can, prop the router up an inch or so with any makeshift stand to get airflow underneath.

It will make a difference for routers that suffer from throttling when they get warm. The discontinued Western Digital MyNet routers with self-contained hard drives were designed to throttle themselves when warm, so you could definitely benefit from the cooling pad idea to alleviate heat throttling (particularly when loading data onto the hard drive for the first time when the CPU got very hot over time). If the router has a USB port, you can plug the cooling pad into the router without a need for a separate power source.
