Cooling My AMD Processor

I bought the Thermaltake Volcano 11 fan for a (AmdXP 2800) and i was curious as to whether anyone one else has this fan.. because i was considering over-clocking it and was woundering if this was a good fan to use or if i should jsut invest in a water-cooling system... before i play around with the over-clocking...

Also, does anyone own a Soyo DragonUltra SY-KT400 and if so have you messed around with overclocking.. is it simple to do because i know soyo added the option of overclocking in the bios.... just curious if anyone has had any previous experience doing so....

Most people don't pick a near-the-top CPU to OC with, partly because the idea is to spend less/get more. 😀

Anyway, the Volcano 11 looks to be roughly the same in heatsink design as the nickel-plated copper retail AMD cooler that came with my 2500+, except it has a bigger fan (which you should not power from your motherboard due to its current draw being really high). So you should have some room to play with by virtue of the high-output fan.

With the KT400 chipset, watch your PCI speed. You don't want to just raise the frontside bus speed without considering what that does to the PCI bus, or you might corrupt your hard drive. I think you do have the option to adjust the multiplier, so that would probably be a good plan... boost the multiplier and see how it goes. An extra 0.1V-0.15V on the CPU voltage may help.
