Cooling Issues and Noise Issues

Ok, here is what im planning:

All in a Lian Li PC52 (same as the PC50)

Athlon 64, 3400+ with Zalman 7000 HSF
Asus K8V SE Deluxe
1GB Kingston HyperX PC3200
WD Raptor 74GB
CD RW
Tagan 380W PSU (http://www.tagan.com/main.htm)
Nvidia 6800GT (whatever is the best deal on it in the next 3 weeks)

Do you guys think I will have adequate cooling in my lian li for this system?

Also, how noisy do you think this setup will be? As far as im concerned the noisiest part will be the 6800GT, so I plan on either buying a special version of the 6800 or modding it when a good aftermarket HSF comes out.

Give me some general thoughts too. I dont really plan on overclocking. I just want a quiet, fast, and relatively cool system.

Sounds like a beautiful system to me. Cooling and noise levels should be fine in the lian li, and you're probably right about the 6800 gt being the loudest. Hopefully the newest revision of the arctic vga silencer will fit it, or I think people say the thermaltake giant III fits the 6800 gt. Might want to check it out. Only suggestions for parts I'd give is that the WD Raptor isn't going to give much worth while performance - probably best to just save your money. Also, have you considered a dvd burner, or at least a combo drive instead of a CD-RW? Many games will be coming out on dvd soon, so you might be at a loss without a dvd drive. A combo drive isn't much more than a cd burner, unless that's just a part from another computer (in which case you probably still should look for at least some kind of dvd drive).

Degrador,

What do you mean the raptor wont give me performance increase? I read almost everywhere that it would. Plus, I already bought it 🙂 .... soo.. Too late!

For the hard disk, check out this article (from Anandtech 🙂) Raptor performance. Check the other pages there too - it shows that there's very little real world performance gain to be had from a raptor. Not enough imho to warrant the extra cost over a sata 80gb drive (for similar size).

Agreed with Degrador, all hard drives are slow some are just slightly less slwo then others.

Looks like a sweet configuration. I take your going to be using the stock fans in Lian Li?, if so those fans will prolly be the loudest thing in the system since both the heatsink and PSU will be nearly silent.
