My current case has space left for either 1 x 120mm fan or 2 x 80mm fans. For a cooler PC, which is better of the two?

Go with the 120mm. It's all a matter of CFM throughput, motor rpms and noise. Even the air turbulence is less noticeable, because the apertures are bigger.

It would depend on how many fans you already have & where they are set up. Adding one will not guarantee better cooling... in some cases adding fans has been known to have adverse effects. 1 front intake and 1 rear exhaust is a good way to go, with the option of a case fan on the top for additional exhaust... also if you end up adding a 120mm fan be aware of the additional dust you could create if you are using it as an intake.

Definitly the 120, get something quiet and powerful like a panaflo.

I'd go with either Vantec or Panaflo long before I install a Tt fan inside my system...
