Cooling fan question regarding voltages

rudder

Lifer
I have a linksys router which has some 40X10, 3.3v, .28A fans. They have gotten awful loud lately. Of course I cannot find replacement fans. I also can't remember much from electronics class in college.

Would there be an issue with connecting a 5V, .11A fan in its place?

Depends on whether that fan will reliably start at 3.3V. Just fromt he specs alone you can't tell whether it will do that. Also, at 0.11A at 5V it will likely spin much slower if it does run at 3.3V, so I'm not sure if will provide enough airflow to cool the router.

I can monitor with a temperature sensor because I don't beleive the management interface monitors that. I just want to make sure I don't burn up the fan.
