We recently got the BFG 6800GT OC cards in stock at the Best Buy I work at ($310.00 with employee discount, woot! :D ), and as I was looking at the card I noticed that it had a nice looking dual-fan cooler on it. Do they all come this way?

On all the reviews I've seen of it they only had the stock cooler with the BFG sticker on it.

I'm actually considering emailing them and asking for the new cooling solution, although I think the original one seems to work fine for me.

The originla one was Nv reference design.

The one they are using now is there own, its almost identical to the one used on the BFG 5900. Although the 6800 seems to have a heat pipe attached.

and yes I think it looks/works better. And the fact that it glows blue isnt abad thing either.

Blue glow is good for another 2 fps
LMAO

Mine came with the dual fan cooler also.
I just assumed they all came this way, i wasnt aware that some earlier ones didnt.
(mine was recently purchased at BB also)

I've already emailed BFG tech about this. Did you guys notice BFG is using the same HSF on the regular 6800?
Might be the reason why BFG 6800GT runs hotter than PNY's.

If you put a "Built by BFG" sticker on it, it gains 5fps in Doom3.
Darn!
Anyone see one with a dual fan, blue glow AND a BB BFG sticker?
I want one of those! ;)

As I said, the one they are putting on there now is almost identical to the one on my 5900.

I doubt vary seriously that they would put one on that is worse than the reference design.

Plus the new one looks a helluva alot more expensive to use then the reference design.

Great, you can let us know what the differences is. If its noisier I'll pass, as the reference cooler seems fairly quiet.

And if you can somehow mount an oversized exhaust that sounds like a bumble bee you'll get 50% over stock speeds. At least all the freaking morons with coffee can mufflers on their (insert your favorite ricer here) seem to think so anyway...

I read in another thread that theoretically the BFG 6800GT's that have the Doom 3 sticker are a special promotional card with the cool heatsink/LED and will only be available for a short time.

I was also told that this card was a promo card/limited quantities. Furthermore RaistlinZ, if you didnt already know BFG has an employee accomodation program. They'll send you a check for the difference of what you paid for the card and -10% of actual cost. Look it up in the employee toolkit.

Here's a reply from BFG regarding the HSF.

It is not uncommon for us to put out different revisions of cards (different color PCB's, different cooling solutions, etc). Many changes are simply to make the card look more like a gaming card, or to provide more efficient or quieter cooling.

The more effecient and quieter part is what I'm interested in. If it is, I'll return mine and pick one up at Best Buy.

So...how long do you have to work @ BB before you are eligible for the employee discount. Probably longer than 1 weekend, huh?

My question is that where can I find the discount coupont on BFG hardware inside the box? It stated that it is located inside the box but I can't find it. What kind of discount can I get?

BTW, what's the temp for everyone's newly designed BFG6800GT? I got 63 idle and 84 max. In the same system for X800Pro, I get 42 idel and 60 max.

From what I heard from other owners and my own experience tell me that the new BFG HST on 6800GT is less efficient that the nVidia's HSF design.
I've had PNY and BFG; PNY with the reference HSF and BFG with their own. PNY runs much cooler than BFG, and overclocks better. If you could still find a card with the reference HSF from BFG, get it. Avoid the new one at all cost.
