Can anyone please tell me, what is the advantage of using 4 pin molex cable over a 3 pin cable for a cooling fan ?

The cooling fan speed is controlled according to the heat of the computer from the motherboard right ? The motherboard will only be able to control the cooling fan if the fan is connected to the motherboard isn't it?

I'm asking these questions because i need to buy a cooling fan with a 3 pin connecter but i searched on ebay and the one i want to buy has a 4 pin molex cable not a 3 pin? So i want to know if i connect the cooling fan directly to a molex cable from the PSU, the motherboard won't be able to control the speed of the fan right ?

No, if the fan is connected to the PSU the motherboard has no control over it.
what size do you need? 80, 92, 120?

you can find what you need at various online retailers:

http://jab-tech.com/Case-fans-and-accessories-c-39.html

I wouldn't get any fans from ebay. I have used jab-tech and sidewinder personally.

not all fan headers control the speed of the fan, usually it's just the CPU header and maybe 1 other.

also what is the fan to be used for, case or heatsink?

I'm looking for a 80 mm cooling fan for my case. Alright I'll check the links you have posted. Thanks a lot for your information. Could you please tell me what is a fan header ?

the header is the connecter on the board that the fan connects to.
