Problem:
My CPU seems to run at the same temperature, or higher after upgrading my HS/F.
Details:
I just swaped out my ECS K7S5A motherboard for a Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2, and while I was at it I installed a SLK-900A (Arctic Silver 3) with a 45.8 cfm 92 mm fan.
My CPU is running at the same temperatures, if not higher than the stock aluminium heatsink w/ 60 mm fan on my ECS K7S5A.
Test Results:
My hardware is in good working order. I ran Memtest + Prime95 with no errors.
I have let the computer run for a good 3 hours straight, and the CPU temp has not dropped. (I understand that Arctic Silver needs some time to set in, but it is running at 56C at idle before I started this message, and it used to be at 54C idle)
I have verified that the heat sink is not on backwards, and that the seat is good and even.
I have installed the latest BIOS, and all the mobo drivers.
In fact, the system (case temp?) is running about 12C higher than the ECS K7.....
Planned Tests:
I plan on downloading Motherboard Monitor and running it on the system for about 24 hours to compare with my data gathered by MBM on my last system.
If that fails to clarify things, I have a remote temp sensor I can put inside my case to verify the temp readings.
Now, assuming that my planned tests will yield the same results as all of the other tests - what could be the cause? And the fix?
I am aware that either board could be miss calibrated (not sure if that is correct english....) but I am wondering if there is something else I could check for accuracy.
