I am about to buy an A64 3000+ Winchester and overclock it. I want to know what the best cooling solution that wont break the piggy bank. The main 2 I am considering are the Thermalright XP-90 with a good 92mm fan, or the Zalman 7000-CU. They both will run me about $40, but want to know which one is better?

Also, the XP-90 has heat pipes. Does the fact that my motherboard in in a tower case, thus inverting the XP-90 by 90* have any effect on the heat pipes?

I'd go with the XP-90 because you have fan choices, and it's a great heatsink with incredible potential for OCing depending on the fan you pick.
the orientation does not affect the heatpipes AFAIK, mine are on the south side of my CPU socket and it cools exceptionally well like this :)

The pipes on my XP-120 are bent side up and it's working well. I couldn't mount it any other way, since turning it any other direction wouldn't work for my mobo. I just hope that the XP-120 will work with the next mobo I get (12-18 months from now).
