Cooling advice, now using stock A64 HSF

First, background! I'm using an Athlon 64 130nm Newcastle, stock HSF. I have a panaflo fan blowing in on the front and a larger (92mm) Panaflo blowing out the back.

Video card's an XFX 6600 GT; I think its fan is the loudest thing in the box, excepting possibly the annoyingly loud 7000 RPM tiny little fan on the K8n Neo4-F motherboard.

The front-fan's very quiet; the back is rated @ 27 decibels @ around 45 CFM; it's a blower, alright.

So. Temps are about 43 Celcius idle; I've got the automatic-overclock it up to 7% under load enabled in the BIOS, but it does just fine with Prime95.

Now, problems!

#1. The whole setup's horrendously loud. Sure, it's fine when i'm playing music, but.. if I'm not, the noise dominates the entire room. I can hear the 27 decibel back fan, which doesn't make sense.. it should be quieter then everything else. I think it's the 6600 GT fan that's making the most noise overall, but can't be sure; I don't know how bad the stock athlon 64 fan is, and that little grehhy motherboard fan doesn't help.

So. Questions!

#1. How bad is the Athlon 64 fan? Would replacing it have a significant noise reduction effect?

#2. Wouldn't having a much more powerful fan blowing out back then blowing in a bad thing? Strangely enough, I tried switching the front and back fans in each position when I put the box together, and it was coolest with the big one in the back.

General advice appreciated.

Use RivaTuner (www.guru3d.com 's downloads section) to control fan speeds if possible.
Use SpeedFan to control CPU fan speed if possible. Decrease it down to 2500 RPM and it will cool well enough but won't be as loud (kick it up when you start full loading and it'll be fine).

More exhaust is good. It will allow air to seep in from the front of the case.

The A64 stock HSF isn't going to make much of a difference if you change it.

You're better off changing out the chipset fan for a passive zalman IMO. Also you can get a third party cooler like a Silencer or Zalman vf-700 for your video card to take care of that.
