I just bought a new laptop and was wondering how good these pads are? Just wondering if they really help at all and if anyone had any specific ones that are good? thanks.
 
Funny you should ask. I just received the following today from newegg:

It works quite nicely on my POS hot running Gateway 600. HD temps at idle are 8-10 deg C lower, and instead of having the notebook fan cycle up every five minutes at idle (65deg fan turn-on), it stays just below 60 on idle. If under a load, the fan now cycles off much more quickly. It is fairly quiet with a wheel to adjust the fan speed.

The model above hubs 4 USB ports. There is another model without the ports which is ~$10 cheaper. If you don't use the hub feature, the pad can run off the notebooks USB power.

I'm happy with it.
