Ok i *accidentally* bought a cpu (754 Clawhammer 3200) from a guy on here that has the IHS removed. He sent me the IHS, so if i have to replace it, i guess i can. I was wondering what the best way to go about installing it is. Can i just CAREFULLY install a HSF after making sure it makes flat contact? If so, does anybody know which one that might be, whethere its a 7000, xp-90, i dont need any ridiculous cooling really (an epox 8K..J 754 board). Or should i go through the hassle of reapplying the IHS, which as far as i understand, could still result in blowing the cpu if not done correctly. Thanks for your help.

what you need to do is get some sort of spacers or washers to make up for the gap caused by the IHS not being there... i know for sure the stock hsf won't touch w/o the IHS intact...

as for the xp90 or zalman 7000... not sure exactly as to how they install...

Zalman should work because it uses screws to install. The XP90 uses clips so I'm pretty sure that would not make good enough contact with the bare chip.
