Here are the temps with side panel off... reported by AIDA32.

Motherboard 27 °C (81 °F)
CPU 52 °C (126 °F)
CPU Diode 38 °C (100 °F)

Side panel on it'll jump up to 57c on the CPU temp.... this is all under SETI load.

Particulars... It's an XP 2400+ on an A7V8X... Vantec Aeroflow w/AS3. Not over clocked in the least. Antec SLK1600 case, 80mm up front (intake), 92mm in the back (exhast).

So, just swapped out the old OEM HSF this morning, just installed it as an experiment, thermal pad and all... was running around 63c under the same conditions as above, SETI load. Installed the Vantec AF with AS3 and all was running around 51-52c... as the evening came on and it cooled down ambient the temps on this puppy jumped up to the stated 57c. Pulled the side panel a bit ago and those are the temps first noted in this post.... put it back together a few minutes ago and back up to 56c now.

A few questions then...
1) Will the temps drop upon curing? And do they generally jump up like that after being steady for 6 or 7 hours? Then they drop back down? hummmmmm.
2) Relatively small case... can't tell you much about the fans other than the 80 intake is panaflo, the 92 exhast is a sunon... So, I assume we have more exhast than intake.

I figure it's an experiment... will be leaving as is for a few days to see if it drops down a bit. But as it's a smallish case I'm thinking the first thing I may do is snip off the case fan grills to increase the air flow.

Any thoughts and ruminations? Thx in advance.

57C on the diode isn't bad. Not outstanding, but hardly bad.
You can snip the fan grills if you want. It won't do much, but it won't hurt, either (though fan blades can and will draw blood).

No, not extremely concerned about the temps as they aren't too out of line with a 2400+, they seem to run a bit hot. It's dropped down to 50c - 51c as of this morning... we'll see where it goes today as it's supposed to get up to right around 100f here, goodie!
Many things draw blood around cases and fans... plan to negate the fan blade concern by modding with the power off.
