Cooling a 226 Watt Peltier

When looking through Best Byte's site I found they sould both a 75Watt and 226Watt peltier. I was thinking of cooling my XP2100 (soon to be overclocked) and was wondering, what would it take to cool this 226Watt peltier? I'm guessing some serious water cooling.

Stupid question: And since this is a 226Watt peltier, does that mean that it would require 226Watts of power and basically and extra power supply would be required.

Would using a 75Watt peltier be a more sane thing to do.

It would take 226W of cooling, plus about 60W for the CPU's own heat production. The 76W peltier isn't going to have enough capacity to handle an AthlonXP... you'd be breaking even, if that. How about compromising by starting with a water-cooling kit and seeing where it takes you to? :D

this answer could be pages long to do it right....but to keep it short.....yes a 225 watt pelt would need good water cooling ...and you need to insulate the board around the cpu so condensation will not form...you will get temps below zero....(hopefully)...and when you use a 225 watt pelt you will need its own power supply......to run right the pelt needs to be around 18 volts.....much lower and it wont work right...any pelt lower than 175 watt s is a waste of time on an athlon system because of the heat ...do some searchs and find some good info on tec's before diving in......try amdmb.com........liquid cooling forum..

Thx for your help, I'll start doing some research, but just one quick question. If these pelts run around 18V what do you use to power them.

I'm currently working on getting my 226W peltier running. It has been a much bigger project then I expected, but I am making headway. I should have it running by this weekend.

The 226W pelt runs 12v, and about 20amps. You will need an extra power supply to feed them. DangerDen has a good psu, but it is a little expensive. I chose one from becooling because of the cheaper price tag.

I am just curious as to where you got your 12V 226watt peltier. 12V seems much easier to run if you have a spare power supply. The only peltiers I have seen run at higher voltages.

they all can run at 12 volts but not at peak output.......of course to run from 12-18 volts you have to get a seperate dedicated power supply for the tec....some places (cooling supplys)have them anywhere from $100 on up......you can bid on some at ebay to like i did.....
