That's a pretty large window for an airplane. Still, that does look like a very low altitude to be in orbit.

Look at picture 2 again... not a chance in hell that was taken from an airplane.
its already far above where any plane could fly, including the SR71.

He's just repeating a number of comments on the hosting sites blog, so it certainly isn't one person asking. Then again if the thread title was see the shuttle launch from a U2 would they look any different to you or be any less cool?

Well it does look like a very low altitude picture compared to what I would think the ISS would be orbitting at. Is there any other pictures out there that shows what it looks like looking at the earth from the ISS.

Still it's a cool pic none the less.

If that IS from the ISS, then its the last photos ever taken by the ISS before it burned up in re-entry.

Also note the difference in the curve of the earth... it's much sharper in the ISS photo.

The ISS is in a Low Earth Orbit of only 220 miles.

Even from the Moon, the Earth does not look like a "marble," it looks 4 times as big as the Moon looks from the Earth.

There is only 5 miles of breatheable atmosphere above your head from sea level. The entire atmosphere itself is generally regarded to be 62 miles high, in which case the ISS is only 158 miles above it (although there is no clear cut-off point between atmosphere and space).

Line-of-sight on earth is generally limited to the horizon about 30 miles away. But if you were to stand on a highpoint (like a mountain) on a clear day you could easily and clearly see the top of another highpoint (like another mountain) 200 or more miles away.

The exhaust from the space shuttle is almost entirely water vapor.

And yes, we need high res pics!!
