How big is the launch plume that the shuttle generates? That must cover at least a square mile. Is it really that big?

However, it doesn't compare with seeing an actual live launch at nighttime. Now *that* was the coolest thing I've seen ever!

I had no idea they could see the earth so well and so close from the space station. Not sure why, it just never crossed my mind that they would be so close that they could make out the shapes of the coastlines very well. When I think of being in space I think of looking out a window and seeing a marble that you call home.

Looks cool but I doubt that's from the ISS. Seem more like a shot from a high flying aitplane. Earth still has little curvature and the sky is still blue. Plus the window is filled with too much earth while observing a small area to be from 300km above without tele as obvious from the window seen in the shot
