The only rule is it must be fairly good in gas milage. Recomendations anyone?

Ohhhhh...you mean the coolest car below $15k. I was thinking something along the lines of a competition car audio machine (the sub thing threw me off)

Yup :)

Sorry. I was in a rush. Want a "cool" sporty car with good gas milage. Still trying to figure out the next car thing. Been hunting/thinking for 6 months now. I'm getting married in July, so I might get a car in August.

Isn't "sports car" and "good gas mileage" an oxymoron?

Well if you want new, you could go for a Neon, they're sporty enough for the price
Used? Hmm... You might be able to find a Celica or an Integra in that range, which have a significant edge over the Neon in terms of sportiness and refinement. A Golf would also be in that range, if you're into them.

Go out and see what suits you best. Do you want something sporty or something with more trunk/backseat space.

Then ask yourself if you want the power of a 6 cylinder or the fuel-economy of a 4 cylinder.

Then it's all about test driving what you can find. Nissan Altimas are alright and they do get good gas milage. Maximas have a v6 so they'll guzzle a little more, but they're still pretty good. But don't limit yourself to Nissan. I'm sure you already have a few kinds of cars in mind...

It's actually not called an escort any more. I know, I know, it is the escort, but Ford took the name away and are just calling it the XZ2.

Personally I'd get a Focus ZX3.

Hell, I just remembered this - you can get a stripped down Mini for right around there :)

I think the base model gets around 40 MPG.

New cars make zero sense unless you just HAVE to have new at any price, or have a ton of cash. These cars cost about 50% more when new just two years ago. Do you really want to buy something new only to have it lose half its value in two years?

thats only true for *crappy* domestics like the ones you pointed out
