Coolest police intercepter?

Looking at another thread over here I remember something I read back a few years ago where one of the local policeman (county sheriff I think) had a special vehicle that he used in his daily job. It was for those "extra special" chases. There was only 2 other vehicles in the tri-state area that were faster. He was driving some kind of Ford, I think it was a supped out thunderbird with an Indy engine in it stoked to the max! All I know is he could catch you in a very short period of time, even if you had a good 5 mile lead! He rarely had to ever open it up full to catch people. Only the stupidest crooks tried to outrun his car. Cause he could pass people doing 120 down the freeway like they were sitting still! Very awesome police car. Most crooks that were running would pull over and just give up upon seeing that car. It was great. The intimidation factor was awesome. The power was even more awesome. 🙂

Wish I had some pictures of the car, but I don't. 🙁 I'd love to be able to figure out what happened to that car anymore. Problem is the car and the cop who owned it are retired. Anybody else know of any police super cars out there? I was always very impressed with the vehice, but many of the jerkazoids in high school called it the grandma rocket and the wheeled blunder on top of dozens of batman and superman jokes besides. But I thought it was great myself. Especially when he'd be on a call, you're doing 55 down the highway and suddenly this blur of a car appears out of nowhere, flys by you and disappears off into the distance. :Q:Q😛😀

I remember that but I think it was just a show car wasn't it? I am pretty sure I've seen a legitimate M5 police car and I think that in Germany they perhaps have Porsches 😀

My town has a lambo, but they turned it into a dare car and I have only seen it on parades.

i'd like to know where you're getting the people to maintain that engine. i suppose you can buy the methanol easily enough.

Yeah an engine built for a track. It isn't meant to be used daily nor are Indy motors even remotely streetable... dude...

BTW that car already has a LS1. No need to do anything but add MTI heads and Cams, bolt-ons, etc.

I saw a picture of a Lotus police car. Taken from a drug bust I believe.

I was wondering how they were able to afford that Esprit, thanks Deeke 🙂

Well, ok. Indy engine is a big of a streach. But you get the general idea. A car with more balls than should be legally allowed. 🙂

Most of the super cars I've heard of don't do daily patrols. They're used for those special calls where speed is of the greatest importance. Otherwise they mostly sit around and wait for a call. That's what the one up here was used for. He'd sit around and wait and if a call came in, he was gone. If not, he sat around and setup speed traps to catch speeders. 🙂

NY State Police has had some awesome cars over the years,

they had some modded ones for the NY State thruway years ago, that the Troppers that used them hated to see go,

Like in the late '60's they had 427 4 speed Impala's
then they had the 440 powered Mopars, for a Long time, some of those vehicles would get cams put in them, etc, when they needed "routine" work done. 😉

one place had an old carrera, common 'cool' ones are z28's.. nothin else special around here.. ive seen diablos in pictures but doubt they're in actual use

It was a Delaware State Patrol car and it was a Ford Thunderbird Super Coupe. It had a few modifications to the engine and suspension, but was mainly used to chase down riceboys and their bikes.

Most of the real exotic cars are confiscated in drug busts and then painted like a cop car. As for real cars that are used for daytoday opperations the coolest ive seen is the CHP Cameros 😀

FHP has some Camaros that I wouldn't mind driving..

I was reading earlier today -- apparently some PD in Oregon has a WRX..
