go to any high elevation in the mountains ( >5000ft id say ), and just watch the sky at night. youll probably see a few satellites cruise over the sky.
 
I'm working on getting a decent telescope. I kinda want a compact one. I'm looking at this 80mm Short Tube EQ refractor over at telescope.com, but theres' also a 5.1" reflector for the same price, but not compact...
 
that was cool.
One night my wife and I were flying north from Portland to Seattle, and a satellite burned in for what seemed to be forever. We were over the relative darkness south of Olympia at 6,000'.
