Which modern desktop CPU over 1.5Ghz runs the coolest / uses the least power?

Can anything these days have comparable heat output to, say, a 550Mhz PPGA Celeron? I'm guessing not, but I remember the higher speed FCPGA chips running cooler than the PPGA ones.

Some AMD Mobile Bartons use 35W and is 1.8 GHz.

I passive cool the 45W version of this chip with a zalman copper flower @ 1.2GHz and 1.25 Volts. My guess is it uses about 20W.

Default Watts * (Overclocked or Underclocked Mhz \ Default Mhz) * (Overclocked or Underclocked Vcore \ Default Vcore)^2 = Overclocked or Underclocked Watts

EDIT:
Here's the 35W wonderchip: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-439&depa=0

I have a mobile Athlon XP 2600+ plus some mobile Celeron 1.6GHz (256k cache, socket 478). They all run pretty cool at default speeds. The Celeron seems okay even at 2.7+GHz, nice and cool with an old retail box HSF.

35w mobile bartons should run pretty cool. I'm not sure how it compares to the 550mhz Celeron though. I'll have one today and see how cool it runs on normal desktop barton settings, if you like.

HT makes a big difference, if you are using the correct applications ;)

I sorta cheat doing it. While the Antec Aria case only has one fan, the 120mm inside PSU, it happens to be located right next to flower which automatically whisks air past flower as it's passing though case.

Anyway the setup is totally silent just for internet browsing/office use inside bedroom on 24/7.

Potential noise makers:

Mobo - Shuttle MN31N on-board vid/sound with modded passive northbridge.
Chip- Mobile 2600 @1.2Ghz (200x6) passive zalman flower
Harddrive- Fujitsu 60GB 5400RPM Notebook Hard Drive suspended with bungie cord acrross CD rom bay.
CD- None, that's what home networks are for:)

also I think amd is coming out with a new Geode line of chips that work in socket A and are designed to compete with cia C3 chips. they have a 1ghz version thats only 6watts

would you have to do a undervolt mod with a 1 watt chip seems like 1.6 v which is as low as my board would go would kill it

I've been able to run my regular TBred B at 1GHz at 1.1v; 13W.

The main limitation is what voltages your motherboard supports.

A 35W XP-M would draw under 10W at 1GHz/1.1v. Passive cool it with a good heatpipe.
