Hi,

I can't seem to get the ideal temps from this heat sink. Depending on what I set the RPM's at, my idle temps range from 47c-50c. However, it never exceeds 53c under load.

I used Arctic Silver 3 and I feel the heatsink was properly installed(although it was a bitch to install in the LANBOY). The only thing I can think of is ambient temps. My Computer is approx. 3' away from our radiator. It doesn't seem too be that hot in the room, but I wonder if this would be a factor? I have another rig in the basement with a stock AMD heatsink(XP 2000) and the CPU temp idle around 37c-40c. Of course, it cooler downstairs and the computer is about 8' away from our basement door, which is not very well insulated.

Has anyone has any positive results with this heatsink? Or I'm I doing something wrong? I feel that it is sealed correctly. Do you think I should remove the Coolermaster and reapply Arctic Silver? Here's the link to Coolermasters XDream
Link

Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have this Coolermaster XDream and it keeps my AMD Athlon XP 2200 running at about 40C. However, the noise level is far from dreamy. What I really want to do is crank the cpu fan low and add a case exhaust fan (which I just purchased). But yea, my temperatures arent horrible.

Yes, That for sure. The noise level is very high. In fact, when I had the delivery people deliver my new furniture, he said "what's is that sound?" I told them that was computer from the other room(which was about at least 20' ft. away from where he was standinding.)

Needless to say, I not to happy with the XDream. I have also 1 intake on my side plexiglass, 1 intake in the front of the case and 1 exhaust in the rear.

Hopefully, you be able to to reduce the sound with your exhaust. At 4000 + RPM's the Coolermaster is too loud.

I have my X Dream running at the lowest fan speed, it's fairly quite. my 1800+ running @ 2000+ is at 91.4f right now. if I crank the fan up to 4500 rpm's it'll drop to the mid 80's. But with the temps I get I have no need to put it above 2600. This is the best 10 bucks I've ever spend on my pc. I am shocked at how well this thing cools at the lowest settings.
today it was pretty warm outside, I played LOTR: ROTK for a few hours and it never went above 106f

I'm using AS3, as for case fans, I have one in the back running around 1800rpm's. So my case isn't a major cooling beast.

I dunno what to tell you about yours.

Can anybody help my fact finding mission? I've been using the xdream for awhiel and my tbred 1700+ oced to 2.166 ghz.

I noticed the specs of the xdream are
speed: 2500 rpm to 4800 rpm
noise: 25db to 46db

Now according to my mobo and also the cooler master aero gate II,
at the lowest speed setting, the fan spins at 3000 rpm and at highest 4900rpm.

This would explain why I always thought it sounded a lot louder than 25db.

I was wondering what your rpms are at the lowest setting.

And, is there any way to lower my speed to 2500 rpm?
Why is my fan spinning out of spec? (my +12 rail is at 11.85)
Could the resistor be broken/worn down...., and is it possible to fix?

weird I have the same fan and a Aerogate II and it's showing up @ 2650 lowest. Not sure if the RPM montoring works correctly on this fan, I know I can't adjust it with my Aerogate II
I will say mine seems a bit louder then 25db, but it could [probably] just be me

I had to jury rig it to my aerogate, otherwise everytime i turn on the pc , the darn thing beeps at me cuz it sense no rpms....

At least I hope thats the case(two more rpm sensing fans on the way)

I don't know why they created it to siren if theres no rpm sensing lead on all four conenctors. What if I didnt have 4 rpm sensing fans?(which i dont)

I got it for Xmas, and its been sitting in its box ever since(other than the few times i tested it)
