Coolermaster heatpipe coolers are awful things

Had a coolermaster hyper 101i cpu cooler.

Replaced it with a ZALMAN CNPS5X Performa.

The Zalman is so much better it's not funny.

Install is MUCH MUCH smoother. Coolermaster CPU cooler has one of the worst installs ever, since you have to push a pin down in a confined space and more often than not one of hte nylon things got caught on the edge of the motherboard hole but you wouldn't be able to tell b/c of the tight space.

Zalman install is such a breeze. Bracket is easy to assemble. Cooler connects nicely to bracket. Tighten with two screws. Simple, easy.

4 pin = adjustable speed fan

Better performance. Coolermaster 101i had idle temps of like 50c, while Zalman is around 40. Quieter also.

Been really happy with the Hyper 212 Plus, pretty much the best bang for the buck cooler out there. Only complaint I had was that installation is kind of clunky, not nearly as nice as on Noctua and other coolers, although the 212 Plus also cost a fraction of premium coolers so I can't really knock it too much.

I wouldn't say Cooler Master coolers are bad. Like many here I am using the Hyper 212+. What I don't understand is why get a Hyper 101 when the 212+ is less than $10 more. The 212+ has a mounting bracket rather than push pins.

Yeah I've heard nothing but good things about the Hyper212+.

I think maybe your thread title is overly general.

Got one Zalman cooler and two CM Hyper 212 plus coolers, and yes there is a reason.

The Zal is all copper and nice but it was more expensive and sliced me to ribbons when I installed it.

The 212s went on no problem. Also they were cheap and work good. Hard to complain about that. It was nice to still have some blood left in my body after the install!

Have no experience with the 101i, sounds like that one should be avoided?

I'm honestly not sure a 212 would have fit in my case.

and looking at reviews the 101i was smaller, cheaper, and maybe a few degrees higher than the 212.

but really it's just a piece of junk because of the mounting solution.
