Coolermaster Cooldrive 3

Has anyone tried this out yet? I'm curious as to how it looks in aluminum cases... maybe even a coolermaster? 🙂 This seems to be one of the only reviews on the net.

Well, 'bout all I can tell you is that I plan to use the Cooldrive 3 in this case:

Link.

I can post a pic if you feel like waiting for me to get it in from Newegg. 😀

Hey, just letting you know I'll be getting the case in today (I ended up with a different one, but it's still silver). I've already got the Cooldrive 3. I'll post some pics when I piece it together so you can see how it looks on silver.

'Course, sad thing is, I don't have a a MB, chip, memory, or a HD to put in it yet. 😀 Damn Intel for this unholy delay.

How much is it? If I only didnt have a damn door on my lanboy! I wish Antec had a alternate chassis.

BTW, just in case you're wondering how it looks lit up, I plugged everything together and ran a line to my current system for power.

I can't wait to get this puppy up and running. 😀

Didn't sound very loud to me at all - 'bout the same as an Ultimate Hard Drive Cooler. But it's difficult for me to tell because I have to listen for it next to my old system (because it's supplying the juice), and that system is VERY LOUD.

As for the LEDs, well, they're wired to the fan best as I can tell. But it doesn't look like clipping the wires would disable the fan. I don't see any reason why they couldn't be wired as HD activity readers - they look like standard LEDs.

Reviving this thread. Jeriko, I noticed in another thread that you were running a raptor inside the cooldrive. I'm thinking of doing the exact same thing. Does it make the drive quieter? Granted there is a fan that will make noise, but does it cut down on the seek/idle whine?

It's hard to tell how much quieter it makes your hard drive, but I barely hear my Raptor running in it (dunno if it's the Raptor is just a quiet drive or what) - and the Cooldrive 3 itself is practically inaudible. If you're worried about case noise, this cooler certainly won't contribute to it. I've got a Zalman running at low RPM and Rheobus keeping my case fans at low speed to cut down on noise, and I'm not able to hear the CD3 at all.

As for the new system, the MSI Meo-LSR crapped out on me Thursday but I eventually got it back up and running. I'm RMA'ing it and have an Abit IC7 on the way to replace it. But the MSI's keeping me running 'til then.
