Coolermaster CH5-5K12 "Heat Pipe Radiator": anyone used one or have the specs?

Subject line says it all. I've seen the CH5-5K12 "Heat Pipe Radiator" on a local shop's site, see Scan Computers but there's no sign of it on Coolermaster's web site.

Scan won't tell me what its claimed ratings are; first they told me to go to coolermaster.com, then when I said the info wasn't on that site, they told me that telling me would void my warranty! Odd, since I haven't bought anything from them to void the warranty of...

Anyway, what C/W, what CFM, what dB/A, and does it fit an Abit KT7A-RAID?

Thanks,

John.

PS. Sorry for posting this on two forums, I didn't really mean to post on general hardware.

Well, I'm not sure about the precise ratings, but it's not an amazing heatsink - pretty mediocre actually. The 50mm fan is a slimline, low-cfm model. If you're looking for a decent heatsink in the UK, check out The Overclocking Store or Overclockers UK. It would most likely fit on a KT7A, but it does NOT cool well, you'd be better off with a FOP32 or 38, or just about anything :)

Here are some specs from a shop which offers this HSF:

Fan: 5500 RPM, 19.5 m³/h (~11.5 CFM), 35 dB(A)
HSF size: 61x50x58 (LxWxH, mm)

So it's a very compact HSF and will most likely fit on your board, BUT I would stay away from it, because according to the reviews I read about it, its performance is mediocre at best if not sub-par. On the other hand its price is relatively high resulting in a bad price/performance ratio. Furthermore there are reports some of them have defective heatpipes...

Tweakr, thanks for those references. Now I know where to get a good HSF in the UK. I think it'll be the Taisol 742, because it seems to have good ratings and is quiet, unless you think that's a bad idea?

Hanky, thanks for the info.

I wonder why Scan think the Coolermaster's good for 1.7GHz?

Thanks all,

John.

Good choice with the Taisol 742, I installed one on my mates Duron 700@1000, 1.85v and he's yet to have a crash - great wee thing, very quiet too (watch the clip tho, use a screwdriver to lock it down.)

The coolermaster might *just* manage to cool a 1.5ghz athlon, but would probably do so at 70-80c, which is not acceptable if you're trying to overclock, and only a very good chip would handle running at this temp.

This HSF will by no means be able to cool a 1.7GHz Athlon (if it's not one of these cool upcoming Palomino chips :)), in fact Coolermaster only recommended it for T-Birds up to 1.2 GHz when they still had this cooler on their webpage (maybe the removed it for a good reason...) and the shop I was referring to also recommends it only for <1.2GHZ T-Birds.
Btw...its cooling performance is reportedly even worse than the performance of the DP5-6H51 which you can get for less than half the price of the heatpipe thing.
