got an abit AI7 board and prescott 2.8e. Right now with an aerocooler 2 i saw cpu idle temps around 55c... Is there any better cooler that will easily fit on the abit AI7 for around 30 or less? Main concern with the aerocooler is that the coppoer contact aera is smaller than the actual surface area of the cpu? Is that normal?

I wouldn't think that would be a problem as long as it's not smaller than the IHS...

Your temps are fine, my Northwood is idling at 59.5 right now. Do I look worried to you? :p

i guess my question then is what is the max safe operating temperature for a prescott where you can expect 2-3 years of usage out of the proc before it dying?

I think Intel rates them at 85C. I've seen mine get about that hot. (or so Abit would have me believe)
