Cooler Master Scout + Radeon 5870 2GB

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone knew the exact measurements for a reference Radeon HD 5870 2GB.

Also if anyone here owns the Cooler Master Scout case and a Radeon 5870.

I was eager to upgrade my computer, fell in love with that case the first time I saw it (and well within my budget) and finally picked it up at Microcenter. Was gearing up to transfer my newly built PC into it when my Radeon wouldn't fit.

It seems the 3.5" Bay extends just a hair under a half inch over the end of the 5.25" bay making it impossibly to slide my card in.

I have two options as I really want to keep this case (nothing else as nice in my opinion under $80, but willing to hear suggestions if anyone here has any) so I just wanted to see which you guys would recommend:
1) I can cut into the 5.25" bay and clear enough metal to fit my card snug.
2) I can sand off some of the shroud (if anyone has reference you guys know for some odd reason there is a point at the rear exhaust, it isn't flush, it was a raised portion in the middle.)
3) some how move the whole 5.25" bay over (involves more work from what I see.)

If anyone has this case and card and has a solution let me know. I'd appreciate it.

I think your only option would be to mod the drive bays if needed. The case is a nice one but room inside is lacking.

I'm not sure about cutting and grinding on the 5870 if you need to use your warranty on it I'm sure it would be voided by doing so.

Ah, good point I completely forgot about that. Case is cheaper to replace if I fudge it than the GPU.

The case in your sig is the one I'd love to get if I had a little more budget, but GF cut me off - already went ~$100 over my initial budget haha.

Time to whip out the dremel!

The Scout is a nice case also just not big enough for larger cards without mods. I picked one up for a buddy when I bought mine. Got them during the black friday amazon deal. The scout was 49.99 shipped the HAF 922 was 59.99 shipped 🙂

I'm currently thinking about swapping my case to the HAF 932 but the new HAF X coming out looks pretty sweet to me also.

Dremel is your buddy 🙂

This card is one bad mofu. If your rich though get the 5970 dual GPU.

You can find one 600 bones from Fry's or another auto store. thanks.. gl

I saw some at 700 to 800 dollars but that was like one month or so ago.

Im waiting until nVidia makes their dual GPU.

You would be set for 3 years at least. Please let me know if you have question.. thx

I think it'll fit in that big ass case...

You need to stop tweakin' there boy. You're cooking your brain, what you just posted has nothing AT ALL to do with the thread.
