Cooler Master PSU

I was looking at the CM extreme power 430w...and wonder if CM makes good PSU

I would like to get one in the near future...to power a setup something like this..

E6750
2gb ram
8800gt
2 x sata hdd
2 x optical drive


does it have enough juice ? if not, what should i get ?

There's an interesting article on HardOCP about PSU's in the $50. I think CM was one of them.

If you are getting that kind of stuff in your PC you can surely afford to put a decent PSU in your system. The cooler master real powerPSUs are OK but the extreme power line isn't the best.

I'd get a Corsair VX450 or maybe VX550 (for more power left over for future upgrades) or the Antec Earthwatts 430W or 500W (again, for upgrade room) if you are on a budget. Personally I'd lean more towards the Corsair because if the single large 12V rail (and I'm also a little biased towards Corsair since I have one right now 😉)

My coolermaster 450W is from the line before eXtremepower, but it's been running my system without problems for over a year. I read some reviews and it scored around 80% efficiency. If I was to buy one today I'd probably pick something else, but in my experience it's a good PSU for the cash.

Well yeah I know, note I said "not the best" not "they suck." But with the specs he's got I think it would do him good to get something a bit higher quality.

Example, I used to say the same for all the antec truepower and smartpowr PSUs I used to have. Worked great. I used to advocate them a lot and fought with galvanized about that. But they all - every single one of them - have blown their crap caps out (all are in operation again because I recapped them). Yeah, galvanized and I see eye to eye on these things now.

1 year IMO isn't enough to say how good a PSU is, and really I've seen some powmax PSUs that somehow still work after a year.

Note on the antecs I mentioned, they have since fixed that so any truepower trios, quattros, earthwatts, basiq, neo, neoHE are all OK. It was the truepower 2 and smartpower lines that had the crap caps.

I don't mean to sound like I'm disagreeing that he should consider other options, especially for a higher-end rig. Even though I've had an excellent experience with my coolermaster (closer to two years, now that I think about it) it would be irresponsible for me to make blanket statements about those PSU's based on mine. I just feel like personal experiences can help contribute when you're choosing between hardware that you've never personally used before.

I've put the Antec TP2.0 into two systems, and an earthwatts into one without issue with any of them (one has been running for over 3 years). That said, I wouldn't necessarily recommend Antec to anybody given the widely documented cap issues that they've experienced. When discussing Antec I say "I've had good experiences x,y,z BUT..."

Same to OP - if you've got the cash for something that is widely known to be a rock-solid PSU (enermax, PCP&C, etc), then you won't regret spending it.

Just FYI, all the Antecs besides the truepower, truepower 2, smartpower, and smartpower 2 don't have the dreaded bad caps, so your earthwatts is fine. I'd just keep an eye on the TP2.0, typically I noticed they go slowly so you start having stability issues and such, that is how all the others I had died (except for one that was working fine, then I shut down and that was it).

Just thought I'd point that out about the models and which were affected 🙂

Hmz, it seems the only coolermaster psu's jonny likes a bit are the igreen psu's. But, the coolermaster 650w extreme power I got, is first of all, to goddamn noisy, and second of all, has about 30-32a on the 12v rail. Yes I know, it's said to have split rails, but corsair 520hx/620hx and LOADS of other psu's say they have split 12v rails, but in fact don't. Anyways, what it comes down to is, how much amps does a 430 or 500w extreme power coolermaster PSU put out. Nowadays, I'd want nothing less then 30a.

very few PSU`s are actually totally 100% split rails.

I wouldn't get a CM PSU, since I've read alot of threads and most people haven't been happy with them. I'm not saying yours is going to be bad, but I'm a fan of doing research on what I'm buying and trying to make the most informed decision that I can for the price range that I've set. I would get at the minimum at 430w Antec EW, but can be run on the 380w version that I have a link below, to see what it can do on a e6600 OC"d w/a 8800gtx!

Yeah, but I'm betting you didn't spend $50 on that PSU. I believe the OP was trying to limit his costs on the PSU, not sure though since we haven't heard back yet. I was just trying to inform him of some options to consider. When he posts back next, maybe we'll know what direction he's taking.

How does Real Power Pro 750w compare with Corsair 620HX? Which is better if I want to o/c q6600 higher if other components of the system are same?
