Hi,

I am using Intel i5-6500 processor and not happy with the stock cooler provided, hence i have decided to go for aftermarket cooler.I primarily use my desktop for Gaming and multimedia.Idle Temps are around 42 c and also ambient temperature is very high in my room around 34 c.

I have shorted two coolers Cooler master Hyper 212x and Hyper TX3 Evo.

Since I'm not interested in overclocking,I have planned to go for TX3 EVO and also it is compact compared to 212x.

Just want to know whether TX3 EVO will be fine for my requirement.

If it's lower fan noise you're looking for, either of those should be fine, but neither is optimal. Cooler Master doesn't make true low noise coolers, they make coolers that start off kind of quiet and then spin up to quite audible levels as temperature rises.

I'd recommend Arctic i11 instead. Like the TX3, it uses a 92mm fan, but the RPM starts off much lower at 500 RPM versus TX3's 800 RPM. This makes a noticeable difference to noise levels. Arctic also gives you six years of warranty, compared to Cooler Master's two.

Scythe Katana 4 is another good silent option if you can find it for cheap. And then there's Arctic i32 which doesn't even spin the fan until PWM signal is 40% and higher.

Well, I'm building a new server from a Z68/gen3 motherboard, and i5-3470 (non-K), some spare RipJaws 1600 RAM.

I'm ready to put it in the case and start testing, but the only coolers I had for it were the stock Intel coolers of an SB-K and the IB-K. I discovered I didn't have the mounting hardware for an 1155 socket to use either an old Noctua tower or an OCZ Vortex, Vengeance -- whatever it was. So I just ordered a 212-EVO, and I'll be done with it.

DAYS LATER: Now I find that I can get the mounting kit for the Noctua for $8. Live and learn. But it's always nice -- with this many computers in the household -- to have a spare cooler.
