Cooler master hyper 212 underrated?

I feel like this CPU cooler is underrated. My I5 2500k CPU idles at 23-25C, when the case temp is in the 32-35C range. I never saw it go over 42C under load. This was with no overclock.

I'm gonna wait and overclock after I do a lot more research into it, but it seems like I have plenty of room to go up and still be in the safe zone.

212 is not underrated. It is very good for its price.

Btw, what is your room temperature when the CPU is at "23C"?

the 212+ is very under-priced, not underrated IMO. it is a very good cooler which can beat some coolers that are double the price

Since it's one of the most popular CPU cooling solutions around here, I'm not sure why the OP would think it's underrated...

About 75 F, which equals almost exactly 23C. So my CPU is cold to the touch, room temperature when its not working hard.

Just curious, but what's the best method of applying thermal compound to this heatsink?

I've read so many different ways; I think I'm going to fill in the gaps between the copper pipes, then a couple of strips along the aluminium.

But that sounds like a lot of paste to use..

It used to be amazing, but now it's "just" good. The Corsair A50 is a bit cheaper and provides better heat dissipation and noise.

My 212+ keeps my cpu nice and cool, but the fan that comes with it is much louder than I like, and will be replaced. FWIW, I tried several of the suggest methods of applying AS5, but ended up using a bb-sized dot in the middle (after filling the gaps). So far, so good.

A CPU cannot idle at room temp on air. This should be obvious.

This.

Hey my CPU is 10 degrees lower than the ambient air in the case! This cooler is so underrated.

No - your temp reporting software for either the CPU or the case temp is off.

That can not be your idle temperature. No heat sink can get temps lower than the air that surrounds it. Not even water cooling can do that. The only way to get below ambient temps is a phase-change setup, a TEC, LN2, and maybe dry ice.

The system temps referred to in the op probably refer to the NB or somewhere else on the motherboard and not the temperature of the air in the case.

haha underrated? It is the single most overrated cooler around mostly becuase of the price. If someone wants the outright cheapest cooler that produces the best temps it's probably the one to go to, but if you want something with a decent build quality and low noise look elsewhere...
