Cooler for X1900XT

I recomend just asking all your questions on one thread for a start.

VF900.

If i find anymore of your threads i'm going to be helpful and give you answers, on a different thread.

LOL I always get flamed for asking the wrong questions in the wrong section in a lot of forums so I thought if I did it this way I wouldn't get flamed.

I guess you can't please everybody though.

well if you start out with a question about some general hardware stuff it is OK then to spin off of that and ask about a cooler in that same thread as well. At least, that is what I do 🙂

I cant find any thermal tape that sticks to the memory chip, i tried fragtape but it doesnt stick well at all.

Try Arctic Silver Adhesive.

The zalman 7000 is the best one 😀

I remember trying this with my X1900XT, but I didnt want to hack off part of the cooler.

Was it hard to mount yours? I remember the big mounting screws barely fit through the card and I had to force it a little, did you have to do that too?

No kidding?!?!? Me too!

Look, I'm always building a *new* system -- can't leave well enough alone, but...

On my next system -- just waiting for the price of 'Connies' to stabilize -- I'll probably CrossFire my rig -- and I've thought about this cooler situation a LOT!

IMHO, it's pretty hard to beat the stock HSF. It CAN be done, but considering the state of the art -- and noise considerations aside -- I think the stock HSF is the way to go.

I'm probably gonna make 'the leap' in Jan 2007, when the New Years sales set in, but I'm 99% sure I'll go with the stock setup, unless someone comes up with a killer HSF in the meantime...

I'd like to stay away from adhesive, dont want any perm bond on this card incase i need to sell it and mount the stock fan.

No i didnt force it... i used a drill bit to open up the mounting holes 😀
Dont worry those holes are non-plated and have plenty of clearance around them, including on the inner layers, for this.
