Hello. I have a home-built computer with a Pentium D 805. The Intel cooler is loud, I would like to replace it with something quieter. Is this possible? I know the 805 is a hot chip.

The motherboard is an Asus P5P800-VM.

What are some recommendations for a quiet heatsink & fan?

For quietness at the stock speeds, get a Freezer 7 Pro and adjust fan speeds with SpeedFan.

For even quieter cooling...get a Scythe Ninja and run it fanless...should be ok as long as your case has good ventilation.
