I need a new one because the stock one is unbearably loud. The volume doesn't bother me as much as the sound itself. It's a terrible high pitched whine. Anyone have an aftermarket cooler for this card?

I was looking into the NV Silencer v5 rev.3 but the reviews I've read on newegg seem hit or miss on fitment. Also I'm not interested in water cooling.

Note, I had to tighten the hell out of the screws to get it to make contact with all of my ram, but it works nice now. SVC.com has them pretty cheap I think.

Thats the right one, excat one i ordered. It doesnt list the 7800 as compatiable, because they want you to buy the new, overly expensive Rev.3. The only difference is the Rev. 3 has the back plate for cooling the ram on the back of the 7800gtX. There is no ram on the back of the 7800gt. Plus the back plate is a piece of crap, held on by thermal tape only. I installed mine and now my load temps are about 20 degrees cooler.

They are definatley worth the 25 or so bucks. I flashed my regular 7800gt with the evga 7800gt bios (470/1100) and can still go up from there. Plus, you get the added bonus of having the heat exhausted out of your case, lowering system temps as well.

WARNING!!!! Arctic Cooling recalled these at one point for incorrect wiring, sticky pads that don't stick, and some people had a problem with them fitting correctly on ASUS cards. And, its the NV5 rev.3 isn't it? Not the rev.2.

I hate it when you buy an expensive $350 card and have to spend another $30 for cooling because the fan is too wimpy or is too loud etc. Why can't manufacturers get it right in the first place.

Just wondering because it doesn't list the 7800 under compatibility.

You need REV 3. Not REV 2.

Sure you need Rev3 if you have a GTX.. the GT does not have memory on the backside of the card. = no need for backplate... And the rev2 card has never had any known issues.

The NV Silencer is an incredibly good cooling solution. I recently got an eVGA GeForce 6800 and the stock fan on that has this obnoxious whining sound, not to mention the fact that it doesn't exactly cool all that fantastically. After using the stock for about ten minutes, I immediately went and put on the NV Silencer 5 Rev 2 that I had bought with it. I used the stock thermal pads for the RAM and used Arctic Silver 5 for the GPU. When I first installed the card, I didn't notice much of a difference in the cooling. I later came to find out that a cable from inside my system was blocking the fan which prevented it from spinning at full speed. Hence why my video card ambient temperature was around 50 C and under a full load it went into the mid 70's. With the fan fully able to turn now, the idle temperature of my GPU is only about 43C and under a full load it gets to around 61C. The biggest benefit of all is that my overall system temps have dropped about five degrees C thanks to the cooler pulling air from inside the case, and the fan itself is nearly silent. I can't hear it over the power supply/CPU/case fans that I have. I'd say that it's well worth the money. :D
