Cool Xbox 360 Networking Feature

Hey Atot,

I thought I would just share something I found out, and did not know I could do till I tried it. I wanted to play xbox 360 online since I just got one (gamertag: skulkingghost) but did not want to purchase the wireless adapter for it since it is so expensive. I also have the console hooked up via VGA to my monitor, so since my pc is wireless and in the basement, I could not run a wire for the console.

What I did:
took a spare ethernet cord, plugged it into my pc's mobo ethernet jack, and plugged the other end into the console. Then I simply went into network connections and bridged it with my wirlesss pc connection and I was set! I have now been playing GTA 4 online all the time with a friend, while my pc does other downloads, and have not run into lag issues or anything at all, it is a great alternative to buying the wireless adapter for those who dont have the cash.

Cliffs:
Bridged network connection between pc and xbox 360 so I did not have to buy the wireless adapter.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that.

If I set up a HTPC for Netflix, couch browsing, Desktop Tower Defense in 50" ginormity and as a music jukebox it would also save me $50-100 on adding wifi to the 360.

I do that with my laptop all the time. Its like a big wireless access point.

You can also just share internet connection also using that same hookup. The difference is that the xbox won't be seen on the network the laptop is on.

would this work with a ps2
You could probably make it work, assuming this isn't an ICS setup in disguise.

It's not ICS, it functionas as an actual bridge between the two network cards. This will work with ANY ethernet device.

The only downside is make sure the PC doing the bridging isn't doing heavy processor or interrupt work.

I just bought one of those Linksys wireless gaming adapters off ebay...cost $49 I think. You can also use an old wireless router and install DD-WRT on it. Or a laptop with wifi.

there are a couple ways of doing it.

Yes, but this is $50 cheaper than your solution if you already have a PC near the 360.

definitely. not knocking the op's solution, just offering up a few more. my 360 is in the living room, router is upstairs in our spare room. running wire was not an option for me, so those were the options available, and are far cheaper in each case than the $100 MS adapter.

just some more options 🙂
